February, is a good month for planting shallots. These finely flavoured relatives of the garden onion tend to be more prolific and have a multitude of use's from being used in sauces, casseroles and not forgetting pickled and in chutneys.

Now is a great time to buy your seed potatoes, ready for planting the early varieties in March.  There is a great range available these days from the traditional early favorites such as ‘Maris Bard’, ‘Lady Christi’, ‘Charlotte’ and ‘Nicola’ to main-crops like ‘King Edward’.
