Vacancy - Retail Assistant (Part Time/Full Time)

We are looking to cover Monday through Sunday with our most urgent need being to cover weekends.

Hours to suit either:

  • A number of part time positions or

  • A full time retail work pattern (one weekday off per week and alternate weekend working)

The Role

An exciting hands-on opportunity has arisen for a Retail Assistant to be a key member of the team at Hare Hatch Sheeplands.

You will work within the Garden Shop and Farm Shop teams.

This role is perfect for an individual who is personable, unflappable, a good problem solver, keen to learn and who likes to be busy & is able to manage multitasking.

We are a small friendly team undertaking anything from till operating, stocking, visual merchandising, cleaning, assisting customers, labelling, watering and troubleshooting.

Work includes serving customers, listening to their requirements and assisting with product information, checking and pricing of stock, handling deliveries in to store, cashiering and visual merchandising. Although rare, handling complaints & emergencies in a professional and calm manner is also important. It is a very seasonal business, and you could be looking after anything from trowels to Christmas trees, purses to pumpkins.

Working in a garden centre requires being comfortable working outdoors & all that entails with the British weather. Duties outdoors include helping customers, assisting with plant & gardening questions, checking and pricing stock, visual merchandising and plant maintenance such as weeding, watering & deadheading.

Full training will be given - although we would appreciate you bringing some experience of the working world with you. See below.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Till Operating and Cash Handling

  • Assisting customers

  • Merchandising, stocking shelves, upkeep of products

  • Plant husbandry - for example watering

  • General day to day cleaning

  • Troubleshooting

  • Excellent customer service

About You

If you have one or more of the following skills we would be delighted to speak to you.

  • Retail experience, especially with taking on additional responsibilities within a retail role

  • Customer service experience in any field

  • Plant or Horticultural knowledge

  • Administrative or IT skills

  • Team Leading or Supervisory experience

  • Fork lift training

  • First Aid qualification

Requirements

Lifting, bending and pulling/pushing trolleys and working with hoses is required as part of the role so a general level of fitness is desirable.

Own transport required.
